Why are they important?

UV lights are typically installed in the plenum area above the furnace. These lights destroy/sterilize any organic material that comes in contact.

Organic material like dust, pet and human dander, pet hair, etc. that circulate through the central heating and cooling system eventually comes in contact with the evaporator coil. The evaporator coil is part of the air conditioning system and is usually located above the furnace in the furnace plenum (sheet metal box). This evaporator coil at times becomes very moist and damp, attracting organic materials. These organic materials stick to the evaporator coil and build up over time.

The evaporator coil then becomes a great source for bio-nesting. Molds and other harmful material grows and eventually gets through the air stream.

UV lights prevent this from hapenning and improve overall system efficiency, saving you money.
