Air Cleaner/Air Purifier Maintenance

What you need to know

It is critical to your systems operation and your comfort to replace the standard one inch filter once a month and the wider 3-5" accordion, pleated, filter media a minimum of every six months. Electronic air cleaner cells need to be washed every 30-60 days. Dirty furnace filters of any kind could cause the following situations.

Your air conditioner could ice-up and damage the compressor.
The furnace heat exchanger could warp and crack causing CO to enter the air you breathe. This is very unhealthy for children and the elderly.
Not enough air flow to some rooms in your home.
Much higher electric and gas bills than normal.
Much higher repair bills
More mold, mildew and bacteria growing on the indoor evaporator coil then normal, causing discomfort to those who have allergies and asthma. The indoor evaporator coil is located just above or below the furnace.

Infinity Air Purifier

Replace media every 12 months
Make sure unit is in operation
If installed with Infinity control the user will be informed when it should be cleaned

Electronic Air Cleaner

Wash cells and pre-filter every 30-60 days in laundry tub
Make sure unit is in operation. You will hear a zapping noise
If no zapping noise then most likely the power pack needs to be replaced

Mechanical Air Cleaner

Replace name brand filter media every 6 months. If you have purchased "knock-off" filters from a strore like Home Depot then replace the filter media ever 2 months. (these knock-off filters fill-up more quickly than the Carrier brand filters)

UV Lights

Replace UV bulbs every 1-2 years
Make sure bulbs are lit (bulbs located in evaporator coil/coil box)

Standard Furnace Filter

Not recommended as air cleaning product
Change filter every month to protect furnace from damage

1" store bought pleated filter

DO NOT use
filter restricts air flow and will damage your furnace.
